Case Inquiries & Expediting

The biggest frustrations individuals currently face when dealing with the U.S. immigration system are long waits, case backlogs, and other delays. The heightened security concerns since the attacks of September 11, 2001 have led to additional required background checks for immigration applicants. These additional checks result in long wait times for applicants.

Although patience is always required, and long wait times are frequently inevitable, our office works to ensure that your case progresses on track and that improper delays are avoided.

Efforts we make on your behalf include:

Ombudsman and Liaison Inquiries: As members of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Capital Area Immigrants Rights Coalition, and the National Immigration Project, we have access to liaisons who work directly with USCIS district offices, USCIS service centers, Immigration courts, and consular posts. We call on our liaisons to inquire into your case and obtain the necessary information to avoid and address delays.

Congressional Requests: We also work with Congressional representatives to expedite client applications when appropriate. Our office will help you contact your representative, draft letters of appeal, explain legal issues, and provide necessary documentation.

Humanitarian Expediting, Mandamus Actions, Media: Depending upon the situation, there may be other options as well.  For example, if the delay is causing extreme hardship, you may qualify for expedited processing on humanitarian grounds.  In certain cases, it may be appropriate to involve the federal courts or the press.  We would be happy to discuss your situation with you, and give you our honest assessment.
